Every time I see one of these very touching videos I am moved by the love and loyalty that dogs have for their masters. They truly are mans best friend and we are so very blessed that God has created them. And then I think how ironic it is that so much of our military energy has been spent fighting an enemy that is distrustful of and disgusted by dogs. If I created a list of the many distinct contrasts between America and the Muslim world, this would be on the list. It is also true that the Israelites in the Old Testament disliked dogs. I didnt see too many while I was in Israel although there were some. It is also true that in Israel most people live in apartments and many of those look to be small. Theres not a lot of room to run. Still this relationship between we humans and our dogs is something that I believe sets us apart. I believe it is a propensity that we have inherited from Europe, especially from the British Isles. Below this video, is a link to a video of a military dog named Lucca. She is a brave female shepherd, and she served in Iraq and Afghanistan where she sniffed out IEDs for the Marine Expeditionary Force. Unfortunately, she tripped one of the bombs and was severely injured in the blast. Two weeks ago, the Chicago Tribune Sunday magazine featured her story which told of how she was treated as if she were a human soldier. They literally medevacked her out of the war zone and sent her onto a military hospital to have her leg amputated. She is fully recovered and living with her original Marine handler. When I read her battlefield story, I wondered, what did those Afghan people and soldiers think as they watched the medics work to stop the bleeding and keep her out of pain? What impression did it make as they watched everyone lift her into a helicopter which was brought in just for her and her handler?
