Every woman longs to have a good relationship with her mother. - TopicsExpress

Every woman longs to have a good relationship with her mother. Some are blessed with the warmth and love from the beginning with their biological moms, some receive this love from foster/adoptive moms, while others receive this love from stepmothers. I was blessed to have many women in my life whove played a big role in shaping the woman Ive become, especially my grandmothers and my stepmom, Laura Maurice. But this is a love letter for my birth mom Mary Etta Maurice-Kaplan. We did not had a good relationship and as I got older the hurt and anger over past mistakes grew to consume both of us. This past year, my mother suffered from illness and unimaginable losses. Such pain and loss would have broken a lesser woman. It was the first time my maturity allowed me to see her as a woman with life stories Ive never been privy to. Months ago she reached out to me and mine with an olive branch of peace. Since then we have begun a new relationship based on mutual love and respect for the women we are today and not the mistakes weve both made in the past. On this, my birthday, I want to thank my mother for having the courage to bring me into this world. I want to thank her for doing the best she could at that time and for putting me with family when she couldnt. I may have had a hard childhood, but all of it made me into the woman I am today and Im pretty damn proud of who I am....I hope as she gets to know me better, she will be proud of me as well. I love you Mary Etta Maurice-Kaplan aka Mom.
