Every year Otis College hosts a gala to raise money for student scholarships. Ive worked on the membership committee for many years. This year, I was largely absent. My mom fell ill and all of my attention turned to getting her the best care and loving her. The very last thing I felt like doing was going to a party. I let the members know that I would not be there. Friday morning, my friend Kadi Lee (also on the committee) called and asked me to reconsider. She said, Its not about Otis this time, its about you, and life, and showing your daughter how to live on, even in challenging times. I wasnt swayed until I thought of it as a mother. Moms behaviors speak louder than any words we can utter. Ive been giving my children regular talks about how to honor those you love by boldly living on—immersed in positive activities. Yet, sometimes I dont take this advice myself. Kadi called me out. I love her. Heres a pick from last nights event. It raised over $1mil so students with a dream can get an education and give their gifts to the world.
