Every year at the State Fair is a great year, but this year, this year was an excellent year! Both girls started the week off by getting purples on their speeches and purples on their cooking( Special Foods Contest). Their dairy goats rocked, their meat goats each placed second in their class, as did Keeleighs rabbit. Which brings me to Keeleigh, her kid received Reserve OberhasliI but I was remiss in posting a picture of her because instead of snapping one on my cell phone I was trying to help her with her goat as she fell and sprained her wrist on Thursday (what a way to start the fair) but she was a trooper and powered through (thanks to Miana Tveit for her amazing help showing). She also made it to the second round of dairy goat showmanship, even though she had to show left handed! And she received a blue in poultry showmanship and purpled in rabbit showmanship! Now the chickens and the cattle didnt do as well but we learned what to improve so we are a step up there. For fun and giggles (and there was a lot) we also competed in the Make-A-Wish fundraiser of sheep dog trials but instead of a dog I had Oakleigh, Wiley and Haleigh. What a hoot - and we placed 5th. Apparently, if I talk to my children in short, one word commands (in other words, as if they were a dog) they listen VERY weIl! We placed right behind Heidi and the boys, who were a second faster. I think both teams proved that going barefoot in the Hippodrome works just great, and it sure gave the announcer something to laugh about. Cant wait to do it again next year! To top it off I got to close down the Wine Pavillion with my Mom and some friends and the beer gardens with my Mom and brother. Who knew you could have so much fun in five short days?
