Everyday we are faced with making critically important decisions - TopicsExpress

Everyday we are faced with making critically important decisions that will have short term and long term impact. The reality is we dont know the future. But here are a few biblical principles for making good decisions even without knowing that part of the equation: 1) Discipline: Resist the pressure from others to make a quick decision. Instead, take your time and make the right one. Any short term relief from having made a decision will pale in comparison to the heartburn of making the wrong one. Isaiah 40 2) Data: Facts can be our friends. Those who ignore the truth or refuse to face the realities are much more vulnerable when making important decisions. David refused to fight Goliaths on the giants terms, but instead of ignoring them, he used the weaknesses of his enemy to bring him down. I Samuel 17 3) Discernment: There are open doors to be walked through and there are some to be avoided. There are closed doors that should be left alone and others to be knocked down. Inviting the wise counsel of godly and knowledgeable people is important, as well as pursuing peace and clarity from the Holy Spirit. Both are critical, but the Holy Spirits counsel is the tipping point. Psalm 1 4) Decisiveness: Once youve gone through the process, dont let fear or the uncertainty of the future sway you from engaging a decision with courage and confidence. Joshua 1 5) Declaration: Submit your decisions to the Lord with humility, as well as, a prayer of thanksgiving and praise. Declare your commitment to living out life under His covering and according to His will, plans and purposes. Proverbs 3 Be confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will complete it. Philippians 1:6
