Everyone has been bragging on their kids accomplishments at the state lamb show yesterday, so I figure I might as well brag on mine! Casen won the lightweight championship and most of our lambs did well in their classes. I am proud of my boys for other reasons, though, besides their ribbons. We have won a lot through the years - and even yesterday was a great day for us by most standards. But I am bragging on our boys for the work they put in 365 days a year. They were here when our lambs were created. They were here to take care of the bred ewes, and they were here to see our lambs hit the ground when they were born. They were here to deliver lambs when the ewes had trouble and they were here to make sure they sucked. When they didnt suck, they were here to milk the Nubian goat and bottle feed them. Then they continued to bottle feed them for a few months to make sure they lived. They gave them their shots and trimmed their hooves and did the same for the ewes. They cared for the ones that were sick or injured and mourned the ones that they lost. They did this with ewes and lambs that have bloodlines that have been in our family for more than 20 years. Even though they dont always like doing all of these jobs, they love their sheep and they did all of this while playing baseball, football, taking pitching lessons, guitar lessons, and college classes. We know that the ultimate reward for their work comes in forms other than purple banners and blue ribbons (although the competitiveness in us likes to have a little of that along the way too), and we have been blessed to have more than our fair share of purple banners and blue ribbons through the years. So we are proud of our boys every day, and we probably dont brag on their efforts enough! Great job yesterday and every day, Caid Cornelius, Cannon Cornelius, Casen Cornelius, and Connell Cornelius!
