Everyone has it. There are some days we can turn back to in our lives and say, Yes, that was a big moment. That was a turning point. The Highline Lady T-Birds just had themselves one of those days. Reaching deep, Highline pulled out a very big 3-1 victory today over a tough Bellevue side. But it was in the fashion of how the Lady T-Birds did it that makes it special. Hard work and determination. Going up 2-0 following early goals from freshmen Serenity Grim and Kylee Wolfe in the 8th and 32nd minutes, respectively, Bellevue came right back in the 34th minute by sophomore Brianna Sillivan. Staying 2-1 at half in favor of Highline, adversity hit in the 73rd minute as Highline freshman midfielder Tara Tesoro was sent off with a straight red card. Tesoro, who had just played the ball off, was hit late with a forearm to the chin. As she was following, the Maui native reached out to the defending player to grab on to keep herself up. In her attempts to grab her shoulder, Tesoro grabbed her hair instead. The referee immediately stopped play and show Tesoro the red card and play was restarted with a Bellevue free kick at the spot of the incident. With the physical play picking up and Highline down to 10 players, it became one of those moments. Does the team sink or rise to the challenge and become better. The Lady T-Birds decided on the ladder. As Bellevue switched into a 4-3-3 from their 4-5-1 to pressure for the equalizing goal, Highline remained strong and actually regain possession, creating dangerous opportunity after dangerous opportunity. In the 85th minute, the Lady T-Birds broke through as Grim picked up her second goal of the contest, clinching a 3-1 victory and moving Highline to a 11-1-1, 13-1-1 record. Grim, with her two goals, now has 11 goals on the season. Wolfe now has 7 goals. On the assist front, freshman Nanea Tavares assisted Grims first goal, retaining her NWAC high with 11. Freshman Dulce Armas added her 5th assist on the Wolfe goal. Up next, Highline will return to action on Wednesday at Grays Harbor. As always... We are Highline. We are family.
