Everyone knows how I HATE Christmas. Why? Hmm. I suppose its the way it all starts about September. In the supermarket and on the TV. Buy this, buy that, this pre-packaged tat. Spend big, spend more - but whats it for? I remember the other year a woman weeping on the news They stole £600 worth of transformer toys and now Christmas is ruined. Im on benefits and cant afford any more. Is that it? About beggaring ourselves for stuff no one really wants or needs? I wonder why people for whom Christmas has no religious meaning do it. Family, people say - being together - the fun! But so often it isnt, is it. I hate the piped music that you cant escape from about now until the sales start on Boxing Day (squeeze the last penny out). I hate the false cheer, the tills ringing, and the compulsory joining in. I dont like being told what to do. However. This year, I am going to try and DO CHRISTMAS. Dont expect me to be doing the above commercial bingeing though. I still have the last present I bought my dad (who died a week before one Christmas (he hated it too, crafty bugger)). Maybe if I unwrap that, what I find inside will be what its meant to be about. So, I pledge, this year, to DO Christmas. Watch out.
