Everyone you meet changes you This lovely lady was never my official preceptors (in fact I dont think she officially ever had to precept!) when I started working at the Cleveland Clinic The wealth of knowledge she shared with me was second to none. I feared her- she could make residents cry! I envied her- her wealth of knowledge was amazing- how did she remember everything there was to know about nursing??? I questioned her and quickly learned that when she wouldnt reply and only would hum, she was giving me the opportunity to think through what I just said. I was amazed by her- even under the most stressful situations she could hold it together. I trusted her- she taught me believe in myself. I knew that while I may of struggled through a busy difficult assignment, if I or my pt needed her she was in the room helping before I had to ask and she always knew what I needed without me ever having to say. How did she do that, how did she always know??? I obeyed her- if she told me to do something I did it, the way she told me to- she was my idol and I wanted to be her one day. I respected her- for many reasons but most of all she treated every pt she encountered as if they were the most important pt she ever cared for, no matter what the situation. Lastly I had the pleasure of honoring her for all she has accomplished. Happy retirement Ruth E. Thank you for everything!
