Everything I have heard or read about Ireland suggests to me that splitting from the rest of the UK in 1922 was the worst thing that could happen to Ireland. While their was an outward freedom, the truth was and is, that Ireland was locked into an illusion. That illusion remained fixed under the watchful eye of the Catholic Church, until Ireland joined the EU, which was rapidly milked for everything Ireland could get. With such a tiny population, Ireland boomed, and much paper wealth was created - all underwritten by banks and the EU. With so many problems swept under the carpet, the balloon swelled up with earnest pride, until the pin arrived. Pop! :-) Zen :-) 24 JUN 2014
