Everything that we see in this world are destructible in form. What is the indestructible object in the universe? It is the soul. The body has to grow old and whither away but the soul does not perish, it is the eternal object. nainam Chindanti shastrANi nainam dahati pAvakaH na chainam klEdayantyApO na shoShayati mArutaH | Bhagavad Gita 2-23 The soul (Jeevatma) cannot be torn apart by any sword; it cannot be burnt by fire; neither it can be doused by water nor put off by wind. - Bhagavad Gita 2-23 The soul is the metaphysical object that cannot be affected by any of the five elements: Wind, Earth, Water, Fire and Space. Its existence is independent of the physical elements. Only the physical body is subject to physical effects of elements, not the soul.
