Evgeny Lanceray’s “Circassian” sculptures Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Lanceray (Евгений Александрович Лансере; 1848-1886) was a Russian sculptor of French origin. He studied sculpture independently in the studio of animalier Nikolai Lieberich. He visited many countries, including Circassia in the early 1870s, and he created many sculptures depicting his impressions of that fascinating land. Lanceray was a major Russian sculptor whose work centred upon horses and their relationship with man. He produced a wide range of works during his comparatively short career.
