Ex-NDDC boss alleges marginalisation of Delta Ijaw A former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Pastor Power Aginighan, has raised the alarm over an alleged lack of development projects in the Ijaw areas of Delta State. Aginighan said in a letter addressed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, that while the current administration in the state had executed many projects in other parts of the state, the same could not be said of the Ijaw territory in Delta. According to the letter, a copy of which was mailed to our correspondent on Tuesday, the former NDDC boss observed the absence of any project worth N500m in any of the Ijaw areas in the state. He recalled that a former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, delivered the Bomadi Bridge as the only legacy project for the entire Ijaw territory during his eight year administration, adding that the Ijaw remained grateful to Ibori. Aginighan listed the Asaba International Airport, Ogidigben Free Trade Zone, Warri Industrial Park and the Delta City Mall among some of the projects executed by the Uduaghan administration in other areas of the state, saying the Ijaw people in the state had been left without any project. The letter read in part, “Your Excellency, while I feel very proud of your achievements as a Deltan, it is disheartening that the entire Ijaw territory of Delta State does not deserve any participation in this bonanza of projects. “I could hardly resist the tears from my eyes when I read the 2013 Democracy Day special edition of Tell Magazine in which your administration’s achievements were well showcased with nothing to show in the Ijaw territory. So far, there is no single project worth N500m commenced, completed and commissioned by you in any part of the Ijaw territory. “If you can muster the courage to right this monumental injustice done to the Ijaw in Delta State before you hand over on May 29, 2015, you will still be immortalised in the history of the Ijaw people.” He specifically appealed to the state governor to complete the Ayakoromo Bridge in the Burutu Local Government Area and provide a permanent site for the School of Marine Technology, Burutu. Aginighan also pleaded with the governor to complete the Asaba-Ase – Abari Road linking Patani, Ndokwa East and Isoko South Local Government Areas and order the immediate take-off of the Bomadi Polytechnic.
