Exactly one year ago my life changed forever when I not only conquered a fear and learned to have some faith in myself but that I also met the person who would end up being far more important to me than I ever could have imagined. After staring at this fire truck ladder all day, wishing I had the guts to climb it and catch the view from above, I finally said screw it, I CAN do this. I threw caution to the wind and I asked one of the firefighters if I could go up. He told me that there was another photographer going up and that he would take us up together. So we made the climb and I will tell you what – I FREAKED OUT. As soon as I got to the top and felt that ladder bouncing and swaying my mouth went dry, my hands started shaking and I felt like I was about to vomit. “That’s good thank you I’m done,” I said and turned around to go right back down that ladder. When I turned around to escape, I came face to face for the first time with Chris. “You’re okay,” he told me and turned me around by my shoulders. He told me to take a deep breath and to drink in the amazing view. I didn’t know who this stranger was but for some reason he calmed me and he helped me to realize that watching the sun set from a million miles up in the sky was totally worth overcoming the fear of it. He took a picture of me up there from above with the view in the background and I had the biggest happiest grin. That moment I felt confidence in myself that I never knew I could have and I gained a friend that I now have no idea how I ever lived without. Chris Morairty, you are the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I can’t ever tell you enough how glad I am that I got the courage to climb that ladder and that you were what was waiting at the top. The past year has been full of so much friendship, so many adventures and such happiness, even in the darkest time of my life, and I can’t ever thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. You gave me the courage to face my fear when I didn’t even know you and you give me the courage to fight life’s battles every single day. I love you like a celiac loves Pushkins cookies. Thank you for being my best friend, biggest fan and partner in crime
