Exams are coming, the campus is getting quiet as students try to cram in as much information as they can and finish those last assignments. It is that time of semester to focus on reducing stress and keeping calm. We at the counselling service are here to help if the stress and worry is getting too much. Lets start with some tips for final assignments and exams. Tip 1 - Breathe! The more anxious we get the more shallow our breathing becomes and the less oxygen is circulating through our blood and into our brain. So take a moment and do some slow measured breaths, you can do them anywhere! The controlled breath - *You can sit or stand, but be sure to soften up a little before you begin. Make sure your hands are relaxed. *Drop your shoulders and let your jaw relax. *Now breath in slowly through your nose and count to five, keep your shoulders down and allow your stomach to expand as you breathe in. *Hold the breath for a moment. *Now release your breath slowly and smoothly as you count to five. Repeat 5 times. This will create a sense of calm, focus and your brain will be ready to start the exam!! Good Luck!!!
