Excalibur Unit / Supporting Our Heroes *** Registered Charity No.1143735 Chairmans Report 2014 Excalibur Unit is now six years old, born out of the passion and dedication of its founders to make a real difference to the lives of the wounded and sick members of our Armed forces. Excalibur Unit’s past year has seen a significant rise in our support to organisations and for individuals in need of our help throughout the UK. In which none of this would have been possible without the continuing commitment and dedication of our supporters, donors and fund raising team. Again this year I am still amazed by the public’s support and their continued generosity. Excalibur Unit has become the focus of a national desire to support those who serve our country in time of war; thousands have been raised and delivered. In a space of six short but busy year’s Excalibur Unit has grown in strength and by 2011 our working name was added “Supporting Our Heroes” In early May of 2013, Excalibur Unit welcomed a professional promotion company; Orrsome Support Ltd, to help expand our fundraising potential and with their professional friendly staff you can buy exclusive Excalibur Unit merchandise and you also will be able to find information on how Excalibur Unit distribute the money raised to help our Armed Service personnel past and present. Orrsome Support works tirelessly throughout the UK, promoting Excalibur Unit at no cost to the Charity. One of the highlights for me personally this year was when Excalibur Unit attended the 2014 War and Peace Rival Show, in Folkestone. This is where our team first came across the Gurkhas fundraising for their Memorial Statue, which is to be situated in Folkestone itself. The Gurkhas had raised £50,000.00 needed for this memorial, but was then told that due to inflation costs an extra £5,000.00 would now be required. Excalibur Unit’s trustees and team made the discussion that we would like to help. So on Friday 18th July 2014, at the War and Peace Rival Show we presented Dhan Gurung Chairman of the fundraising charity, a cheque for the remaining £5,000.00 needed to complete their fundraising task. We all found this a great privilege and honour, we all believe that there should be a memorial in Folkestone marking the contribution of the Gurkhas and marking our respect for their service that they have given us for the past 200 years. The memorial will be unveiled in late March of 2015, Excalibur Unit will proudly be in attendance. Quote from Kent News. Dhan Gurung, managing director of Gurkha Services Link Ltd, and a Folkestone town councillor, said, “It was a very successful event for everyone and it was a great honour for our team of Gurkhas to be a part of the War and Peace Revival 2014. I would also like to thank organisers Rex and Georgina for giving us a such a great opportunity to raise funds for the Gurkha Memorial Statue and to the Excalibur Unit for donating £5,000 during the event which completes our fund “ I have now had the privilege of holding my position as chairman of Excalibur Unit/Supporting Our Heroes for the last three years and I hope the next two years will be just as exciting and eventful. As Chairman and Head Trustee, I still very much enjoy being hands on and getting out with our fundraising team and Trustees at our events, come rain or shine, you’ll find me there with a bucket in hand and a welcoming smile on my face. I enjoy the conversations the Veterans and myself have at these events and find it a privilege to be able to help our serving and ex-serving Military personnel. Our beneficiaries are the heart of everything we do and we are making Excalibur Unit work better for them. We are making it easier for people to find Excalibur Unit and easier too for our beneficiaries to find the support they need that helps them regain the control and independence they want in their lives. Looking to the future I would like Excalibur Unit to continue to improve the quality and support we give to the wounded and injured serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. Lastly I would like to thank my co-trustees, events co-ordinator, promotional team, P R team and all our incredibly committed and passionate fundraising team and volunteers for their time, effort and brilliance which make Excalibur Unit/Supporting Our Heroes such an extraordinary Charity.
