Its a no-brainer, and we all now why exempt salaries came into existence, but its time to eliminate their use. It would put money in workers’, and thus consumers’, pockets; create an incentive for companies to hire workers, including the long-term unemployed; and help build the stock of human capital that we know is the deciding factor in long-term economic growth. This would also improve worker well-being. With our economy the way it is, there is no reason employees should be working over 40 hours per week. Hire additional staff and spread the workload and the wealth.
