Excellent editorial by The Journal Gazette which actually holds Fiddian-Green accountable for the continued attacks against Supt. of Public Education, Glenda Ritz. As we spelled out recently in Muncie Voice, Fiddian-Green sent a ridiculous memo to the US Department of Education sabotaging the NCLB waiver prepared and sent to USEd by Ritz, which could cost millions of dollars to Indianas most disadvantaged schools/kids. Hopefully the underlying message of the editorial becomes reality: As voters begin to consider candidates for the Nov. 4 election, Republican leaders should be prepared to explain why they havent questioned the brazen power grab exercised by Pence and his new agency. Nearly a dozen educators are running for legislative seats in districts won by Ritz in 2012. If they tap into the same anger voters displayed in the superintendents election, Republican leaders might finally have to explain why they have ceded control of education spending and policy to the governor.
