Except I do not agree with the demand to jail the cops, as I believe our criminal justice systems emphasis on punitive response - rather than restoration - is way too faulty. I also believe that prison helps nothing and noone. I believe in restorative justice - and the emphasis on restoring the harm that has come from ones actions through building a relationship with those harmed (including a community). I would rather these cops be sentenced to completion of a black or brown studies degree, three years volunteering as advocates to black and brown young people whose traumas are bringing them into contact with this very system I believe should be altogether abolished. And then another three years serving as advocates for those with complaints about police conduct. All total here Im talking 9 years serving the community and families harmed. I believe that it is much better for the community, the families of the victims, and the restoration of the soul of these officers that we demand and expect restorative measures and restorative justice approaches.
