Excerpt from Our Daily Walk, 1st January 💝Father, help me today as I seek to do Your will. Strengthen me to run the race that You have set before me.💝 💥Psalm 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the exceed, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!💥 What does it mean to be blessed? It literally means happy and fortunate. It is a deep-seated joy and contentment in God. This is the term used in the Beatitudes; the divinely bestowed well-being that belongs to the faithful. This verse tells the blessed person what not to do, while verses 2 and 3 indicate the positive steps to be taken. We are not to seek counsel from the ungodly, not are we to stand with sinners, not sit with the scornful. Do you notice the downward trend. First, they are walking (instead of running). Then they are merely standing, and then they are sitting. In the next two verses, the Psalmist talks about how the godly person spends time in His Word. As we seek counsel from the ungodly, our Christian life could slow from a run to a walk, then, working outside of Gods power, we could get tired and just stand around with others who are doing the same thing. Here, it is easy to begin to gossip and criticize, which is sinning. Eventually, after working in our own strength, we get tired and just sit and become a scoffer ourselves. When we seek counsel, it should be from a godly person. Better still, we should seek Gods counsel directly from His Word or by prayer. As you do, you will experience that joy and contentment in our Lord. You truly will be blessed.
