Excerpt from Savage Pride, the second part of the Savages MC series: There was something new today from his contact. Ash clicked on the email and brought up the pictures, then expanded them on the screen and sat back. Images of a familiar redhead doing a variety of different things filled the screen: pouring coffee, laughing at a customer’s joke, carrying a tray of food. Daily candids of a girl living a normal life, far away from the danger Ash constantly faced. He scrolled through the images until he came on one where the girl was sticking her tongue out at the cameraman. A smile cracked his lips, but there was very little true mirth in the expression. Staring at the picture made his chest tight in sudden longing. Continuing to scroll, he watched as she did her daily routine. When he came on the last one of her putting on the motorcycle helmet however, he stopped. That one picture gripped him, stopped him in his tracks. She was frozen in time looking off into the distance. There was a pensive look on her face, the large helmet suspended above her head. Ash couldn’t help himself: he reached out and touched the screen, tracing the lines of her face. The cool glass of the old monitor felt nothing like the smooth skin he remembered. *Eve.* Her red hair caught the sunlight perfectly and Ash couldnt pull his eyes away. He could almost imagine it was him she was thinking about. There was a word for this obsession of his - stalking - but Ash didn’t care what they called it. Seeing her every day, even in pictures like this, was his only light. It was the only way he kept whatever shred of humanity he had left in the world.
