Joseph Campbell calls it “The Ordeal.” In Hero with a Thousand Faces Campbell says: “The ordeal is a deepening of the problem of the first threshold and the question is still in balance: Can the ego put itself to death?” I knew that this moment of darkness wasn’t forever.
