She was as innocent as the Plebs she wanted to save. How will she respond when she sees her true self, the one she has buried beneath the layers of practiced Immaculate niceties? Will she feel the same deep humiliation that I felt and not been able to rise above? Obsidian had the ability to reveal the darkness hidden in everyone. If he exposes my daughter to her hidden resentments and vengefulness, her fears and prejudices, will she win? Will she earn the right to own her soul? Opal had failed. She had been defeated. She had clung to Immaculate perfection. It was false. It was arrogant. And she had fallen back, clinging to what was comfortable, to what was safe. It was weakness too.
