Excited about the defeat of the Keystone Pipeline? Dont be. It - TopicsExpress

Excited about the defeat of the Keystone Pipeline? Dont be. It was a meaningless political stunt engineered by Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-LA, to try to save her seat in a runoff election. This is a runoff of political bullshit. She trails the author of the Keystone act by some 20%, so she brings his legislation to a vote. Brilliant. The Pipeline lost by only one vote. The Repugnant Party picks up at least 8 seats in Jan. So it will pass easily in Jan. Obama presumably will veto the bill, and there will not be enough votes to override the veto, we hope. But watch Obama trade Keystone for something which blunts the ObamaCare attacks and/or talk of impeachment and smooths his final two years in office. It does not matter that there are no grounds for impeachment. But the votes may be there in the Senate this time. Remember, Clinton was impeached, but acquitted by the Senate. The pipeline passing is not the end of the world; for tens of thousands the loss of the ACA may, in fact, be the end of their world. Saving ObamaCare is more important than allowing one more pipeline to be built. Re: Impeachment. The Republicans are probably aware that they cannot convict Obama in the Senate based upon their meaningless blathering. It takes 67 votes to impeach which removes impeachment from the realm of the frequent political football. The Founders were like that. They thought long term. They have, at most, 53-54 votes in the 113th Congress. But there is no indication that the House which voted to repeal ObamaCare about 100 times is not above meaningless and time consuming political gestures. So wait for it...
