Exciting news! ConHill 2014 will be happening soon! The message below will be sent to the relevant teachers via email. If you do not receive it, please inbox this page (include your school name) and we will discuss the issue further. See you all soon! :D Dear Debating Teacher My name is Jolandi Swanepoel and I will be running the ConHill Debating League this year on behalf of the Tehuti Institute. We would like to invite your school to participate. Format There will be 6 round robin rounds (three per day) and a break day. All debates will be run according to the World Schools Style. More information on this can be found at schoolsdebate/docs/. Dates The league will run for 6 weeks from mid October 2014. All events will be held on Sundays to allow for provincial training to continue uninterrupted and to give learners a chance to study for exams. There will be a training day where speaker training and adjudication training will be offered; thereafter there will be two senior days and two junior days followed by a break day that will host the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. 19 Oct Training day 26 Oct Junior day 1 2 Nov Senior day 1 9 Nov Junior day 2 16 Nov Senior day 2 30 Nov Break day Venues There will be four areas: Alexandra, Katlehong, Tembisa and Soweto. All the events will happen at a school in each area, except the break day which will happen at Constitution Hill. If you are willing to be the host in your area, please let me know ASAP. Requirements You will be allowed to send both a senior (grades 10-12) and a junior (grades 7-9) team. Each school may send only one team in each category. In addition to sending a team, you will have to send an adjudicator along each day. This person will have to attend the training day in order to adjudicate the rounds. Food and transport Lunch will be provided on all days assuming that there are 5 members in a team and one accompanying adjudicator. Transport will also be subsidised in a similar manner: you will be given a certain amount of money in cash to cover transport costs, but you will be responsible for getting to the venue and home again. These things will only be provided for the team and the judge, any spectators or observers will have to bring their own food and arrange their own transport. Payment Adjudicators will be paid for each debate they adjudicate. RSVP Please send the following things through by 30 September: 1. Can you attend? 2. Will you be sending a junior team, a senior team or both? 3. Will your school be able to host the preliminary events? 4. Which one of the areas you would like to participate in (Soweto, Katlehong, Tembisa or Alexandra) These responses can be sent to this email address (conhilldebate@gmail) or you can SMS/Whatsapp the responses to 073 063 7008. Please only call that number if you need information urgently. We look forward to hearing what your talented speakers have to say!
