Exciting times..........the engine internals have now landed. So, its soon going to be time for Paul Exon, Exon Race Engines to work his magic again. On the shopping list for the new build internals were quite a few of the same items as we used last time, except for a couple of little changes:- A set of ultra strong Manley I-Beam Turbo Tuff connecting rods which stood up brilliantly to everything we threw at them last year. 89mm CP Carillo forged pistons with low friction skirt coating and thermal barrier ceramic crown coating. These are low compression items and the strongest forging CP make for the K20 with the full skirt. Weve also upgraded to some much stronger tool steel wrist pins as we managed to bend the standard ones last year. Well be making some adjustments to our clearances for this build, so now weve just got to hope that our engine failure last season wasnt purely down to the piston choice itself!!! ACL main, rod race bearings, thrust washers etc. Cometic MLS 89mm head gasket. Toda Racing heavy duty timing chain. More strength and therefore less prone to stretching. Also less friction in the links themselves. Hybrid Racing chain tensioner. Tighter tolerances than the oem unit, better materials used and a dual ratchet system. New oem Honda timing chain and oil chain guides throughout. Along with these parts came some fresh Darton sleeves to build up the foundations for a super strong bottom end. A couple of weeks ago however, a Lotus owner was getting rid of a spare sleeved block which Ive bought in order to save us some time. It also means I have the parts to build another bare bottom end at some point. On this particular block the head bolt holes have machined out and threads rolled in for oem 12mm S2000 stretch bolts. For the head well be going down the exact same route as before. Rebuilt with mostly oem parts, with some JDM cams and Eibach valve springs. Itll also be lightly ported on the exhaust side as this made a huge difference to engine performance last year. Along with the adjustable Toda cam gears we fitted towards the end of last year, but never got a chance to play around with, we should be able to fine tune it more precisely this time around, given the time. Thanks again to Real Street Performance and Automek for your help.
