Exercise Reduces the Reoccurrence of Low Back Pain In a study - TopicsExpress

Exercise Reduces the Reoccurrence of Low Back Pain In a study published in the Journal of the American Physical Therapy Association, it was determined that exercise reduced the reoccurrence of low back pain. It was further stated that exercise is the most consistent intervention in optimizing recovery from low back pain and this systematic review suggests exercise is likely effective in minimizing the number and severity of reoccurrences, (1). The authors noted that posttreatment exercise included stretching and strengthening exercises for the back, abdomen and lower limbs and relaxation exercises, plus education. These exercises following physical therapy treatment were more effective then no intervention for reducing the number of patients with recurrent low back pain, the number of reoccurrences, and a number of days of sick leave due to recurrent low back pain. In addition, the authors suggested that adherence to the posttreatment exercise is important, (1). Kulp Physical Therapy and Massage focuses on individualized home exercise programs that the patient can utilize in reducing the reoccurrence of their low back symptom and maintain their improved physical status through their own independent efforts.
