Exercise and nutrition are two of the three main factors that dictate your weight loss. The other is lifestyle and that includes, sleep, stress, work, mood, hobbies, vices etc. One of the biggest lifestyle factors that can make or break your fat loss efforts is whether or not you get quality sleep. If you dont get 7-9 hrs each night you are disrupting the release of growth hormone and testosterone. These two hormones are lipolytic, that means fat burning, they also increase lean tissue growth which means an increase in metabolic rate and more calorie burning. They do lots of other wonderful things, but those are two important ones, thats why you need to optimise their release. You actually burn body fat (and lot) whilst you are asleep. But If you are average less than 7hrs, forget everything I just said, you wont be getting those benefits. If you have added stress from your job or work life, you will be in a constant state of cortisol release (stress hormone that shuts down fat burning) and fat loss will be an uphill battle! Find time to relax in the evening and start to wind down, leave work at the office, dont bring that stress home with you. In most cases you are not being paid to stress about your work at home, so dont. Find ways to relax and forget about it. Switch of the TV and internet, read a book or listen to music. Pick up the phone and speak to a family member or friend. Every hour in bed before midnight is worth two on the other side! Sleep is important. Catching up on the weekend is not a good strategy. Get some rest! Thats an order :)
