Each year Limerick Printmakers puts out an open call for printmakers to submit up to three artworks for selection, which can be traditional prints such as etching, lithography, silkscreen, or woodblock, as well as digital print or mixed media works with an element of print. This year over a hundred prints were submitted from artists from Ireland, the UK, Europe, and Australia. This year’s selector Charles Harper RHA studied at the National College of Art and Design, Limerick School of Art and the Graphic Studio in Dublin. He has represented Ireland at International Biennials in many countries throughout his career and he has exhibited regularly both nationally and internationally. The artists selected for this years exhibition are Christina Bennett, Kieran Carey, Jason Deans, Eithne Deloughry O’ Byrne, Wendy Dison, Niamh Fahy, Nessa Finnegan, Pat Fitzpatrick, Aidan Flanagan, Deirdre Gallagher, Helena Grimes, Tim Humpfries, David Lilburn, Bernadette Madden, Margaret Mannion Kallen, Marie-Louise Martin, Eilish McCann, Martina Navratilova, Ruth O’ Donnell, Suzannah O’ Reilly, Kate O’ Shea, Heidi Reich, Jim Sheehy, Jacob Stack, Rynes Walker and Lorraine Wall. Charles has selected a diverse range of work that illustrates the myriad possiblities that lie within the medium of print, from Rynes Walker intriguing photograph ‘Z-Section’ to the quirkiness of Helena Grimes drypoint and monoprint ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’. David Lilburn’s print beautifully captures an epic journey in delicate tones while Jason Deans intense mark-making draws the viewer into a playground scene. This exhibition is a declaration of the vibrancy and diversity that exists in printmaking today. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. limerickprintmakers
