Exodus - Zionism and Pos Malaysia This Land Is Mine was written for the 1960 epic Exodus - a movie identified by many commentators as having been enormously influential in stimulating Zionism and support for Israel. (wikipedia) Which is to say that it is a rather unlikely song to be used in a commercial setting in Muslim majority, Zionist-phobic Malaysia. I was at the post office yesterday when I recognized the tune. Imagine my surprise when I looked around and saw on a TV screen that the music is being used in an advertisement for Pos Malaysia (the Malaysian postal service). In a country where all hell breaks loose over an image of a Hindu god on a mineral water bottle imagine the reaction if word gets about that the postal system (admittedly probably inadvertently) is using a pro-Israel theme song to woo its customers. Personally I think its a great song, though I prefer this jazz instrumental version to Pat Boones crooning on the original. And since Im on the subject - Nina Paley (of Sita Sings The Blues fame) has done an excellent, and ultimately tragic animation of the Pat Boone version.
