Exodus 1-14 records the liberation of Gods chosen people. the Israelites. The Founding Fathers saw themselves in the same situation. Following Patrick Henrys famous Give me Liberty or Give me Death! speech in VA, the British began seizing the goods and supplies of the public. Henry would not allow this to continue. He reminded the local militia with the following speech: Exodus 13:21-22----the pillar of cloud and fire to guide them 21 And Jehovah went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night: 22 the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, departed not from before the people. Exodus 17:6-----water gushing from a rock Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. The only Sects which he thinks ought to be, and which by all wise laws are excluded from such toleration, are those who teach Doctrines subversive of the Civil Government under which they live. The Roman Catholicks or Papists are excluded by reason of such Doctrines as these that Princes excommunicated may be deposed, and those they call Hereticks may be destroyed without mercy; besides their recognizing the Pope in so absolute a manner, in subversion of Government, by introducing as far as possible into the states, under whose protection they enjoy life, liberty and property, that solecism in politicks, Imperium in imperio2 leading directly to the worst anarchy and confusion, civil discord, war and blood shed-- The natural liberty of Men by entring into society is abridgd or restrained so far only as is necessary for the Great end of Society the best good of the whole-- Samuel Adams.
