For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” Its an axiom of Christian human nature that we are pressed by circumstances or our own minds to give up early. The Israelites were delivered from 430 years of slavery and in a couple of days of adversity they are ready to stop trusting and having faith in God. Its my belief that megachurch oriented believers in Jesus, like me, need to stop being defensive about standing in faith for a miracle. We need to persist in faith, especially when it looks hopeless. Its sad that some extreme doctrines have tainted this principle of standing in faith, making it all about methods, pride, consumerism, greed, or faith-healer notoriety. Of course there is a continuum—like the woman with the blood issue in Mark 5:25 who had that condition for twelve years. Jesus said your faith has made you well. Or the man born blind who was healed and didnt really express faith in Christ; not even knowing who Jesus was John 9. Whatever the case or situation, we try not to be like the Israelites in the desert, we keep ourselves in faith in God.
