Expatriates to face more choking by Assads attempt to close three Syrian embassies: Founder of Syrian Community in Arab Gulf countries (SCAGC) has confirmed the Syrian regime decision to close Syrian Embassies in Riyadh, Kuwait and Washington. Jameel Daghestani said the reason behind such an act is to strip Syrian expatriates, mainly the anti-Assad regime, from their right to vote in forthcoming presidential election in June 2014. Daghestani told Eqtsad, fellow-newspaper to Zaman Alwasl, that Syrian Regime Embassies, usually cooperate with security centers and most of the times work as security branches to keep Syrian people under observation. Another unacceptable practice of Embassies was taking a chance of the recent circumstances to charge big amount of money for usual consular services. It is estimated that fees for renewing a passport is the highest globally, according to the CEO. According to Daghestani, 2004 statistics of Overseas Ministry estimated that 18 Million Syrians live abroad, among them 800 thousand in Saudi Arabia and 235 thousand in Kuwait, while the number reached to 1.5 million in USA. “What do you think about numbers these days, after the economic crises and Syrian revolution, as numbers of refugees and who left the country increased to more than double. Therefore, more than 4 million Syrians will be prevented from voting”, the CEO detailed. The foreign Affair Ministry in Syrian Regime decided on 11th March 2014 to close its Embassies in Riyadh, Kuwait and Washington. Embassies in both Kuwait and Washington have been closed, while in Saudi Arabia, Syrian people who have any consular service, were given notice to visit the Embassy to collect their documents within 10 days from the date of the decision.
