Expect cooler temperatures due to tail-end of a cold front, northeast monsoon MANILA, Jan. 22 (PNA) -- Slightly cooler than normal temperatures are expected in most parts of Luzon in the next two to three days because of the effects of the northeast monsoon and tail-end of a cold front, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaste Aldczar Aurelio said the cold northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” was expected to bring cloudy skies with passing light rains in Northern Luzon until weekend. Aurelio said the tail-end of a cold front, on the other hand, will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Central Luzon, especially in the eastern sections. The tail-end of a cold front is the front boundary of two air masses, which produces clouds and rain. He said the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains while Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains. Thunderstorms are likely to occur over these areas. He added that the country will continue to be storm free for the next two to three days as there is no weather disturbance seen near the Philippine area of responsibility that can develop into tropical cyclone. For Thursday forecast, PAGASA said The region of Davao and the Provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains. The Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains. Thunderstorms are likely to occur over these areas. The regions of Cordillera, Ilocos and the rest of Cagayan Valley will experience cloudy skies with light rains. It added Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated light rains. PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas. The weather bureau also issued gale warning as strong to gale force wind affecting the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the presence of northeast monsoon. Fisherfolks and those using small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards, it warned. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
