Experienced my first dead mall ever... OMG... We went into the Sears at Regency Square Mall to see about some work boots for him because his shoes are falling apart, and almost everything in the whole store was on sale 60% off or more. We have known for a while that place was going out of business because an employee told us, once. Well, weve never been inside the actual mall. Weve only been to that Sears and the AMC theater in the same parking lot. Yeah... I have never seen so many empty stores... EVER. It was honestly creepy walking through the corridors of that mall because besides one GMC, there was NOTHING open, and it was kind of dark. I felt like you could get mugged inside that mall, and nobody would know. Not a soul walking around or anything. It was eerie. Like the zombie apocalypse had started or something. As we walked past the empty storefronts, we were trying to guess what used to be there, like a jewelry store, or a Wet Seal, or a pizza joint. It was bizarre. Halfway across the mall, we came to a Belks (Look, civilization! Well... lights... anyway...) thats going out of business. So, they had everything on sale, even the display cases and furniture. So, we thought we would take a looksie... Yeah, it was WAY overpriced. I mean, not even quality stuff, and they wanted like $125 for a dingy chair youd find in a dressing room or the shoe department, or cabinets or tables that were kind of scuffed up that you could find cheap or free on Craigslist... and they wanted $200! The only thing I saw remotely interesting was an Armani X display case for sunglasses. But, they wanted $25 for it. Yeah... I dont have that many pairs of sunglasses... I was surprised how much they want for that junk. $50 for one of those Clinique extra tall directors chairs? Really? Not that we had the money to buy anything. But, geez... Somebody was smoking crack when they came up with those prices. It was so weird, too, because you had to walk through the Belks to get to the rest of the mall. I have never seen that, before. That 1/3 of the mall on the other side was still alive, and there were maybe a hundred people roaming around that side. But, even a lot of those stores were having ridiculous sales, which means theyre probably on their way out, too. Its weird because there are so many strip malls around there with business, so I dont know why that mall is dying. I guess maybe its too close to Town Center, which is 100 times nicer? Its not a very good area, so I guess everyone goes to Town Center or Avenues Mall. I read that the guy who owns the mall was trying to sell it to IKEA. However, IKEA wont buy it because we dont have a population over 2 million within so many miles. He could sell to a condo or apartment complex developer, but nobody in their right mind would want to live in that area. So, I guess that mall is just going to keep dying a slow and painful death. It sucks because you could totally take one of those big department stores and put in a kickass club. But, youd never get any business. It was quite an experience. Im used to the Tacoma Mall being packed, or Southcenter, or the Beverly Center, or the Grove. Big, crowded, malls. Even the Lakewood Mall was never so deserted, before it went under, and it wasnt a very busy mall. (They converted it into the Lakewood Town Center, which is more like a big strip mall shopping area. You cant go inside the mall, anymore).
