Experts at the Ministry of Electricity launched a new and renewable energy and solar energy initiative to transform Luxor into a green city using solar energy, explaining the importance of promoting the concept of green technology in support of the resolution. Utilising the Green Pyramid evaluation system in new buildings as issued by the National Research Centre, housing and construction, and the use of solar energy in the city as far as transportation, buildings and waterways goes, expecting to reduce the rates of carbon emissions between 10 and 15% by 2020 and to strengthen the institutional role in supporting the concept of green cities, as well as maximizing the role of Luxor as a green town in support of tourism in order to raise national income. The solar experts have highlighted the importance of establishing giant solar power stations to be placed in land unfit for the exploitation of future agricultural or residential projects. Funding will come from national and investment banks, paid off from electricity production, government agencies will assist in financing the project in order to reduce government subsidies in energy, utilising the subsidies to support energy production & to finance solar energy projects for a limited period, stressing the importance of legislation to strengthen the role of non polluting industries within the industrial city of Luxor, and the possibility of recycling waste from restaurants and hotels for the manufacture of liquid bio fuels, which produces clean fuel that can be used in the automotive and transportation industry instead of gasoline and diesel fuel.
