Experts to help rural towns keep their high streets alive Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum workshop Thursday 27th March 2014 GL3 Community Hub Churchdown Cheltenham Rd East Gloucester GL3 1HX Over the past few years our rural towns and villages have not only had to struggle against the impact of the recession, but continue to face multiple challenges, including the growth of online shopping and out of town superstores and increasing rents and rates for businesses. The longer term future of the High Street requires national intervention but there is a lot we can do locally to revitalise and sustain our centres if we combine resources across private, public and voluntary sectors and adopt an enterprising approach. This Enterprising Towns Event, hosted by Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum, is a full day workshop open to all who aspire to create sustainable commercial centres within their community that provide vital services for locals and visitors and make a positive contribution to the local economy and add social value. This workshop is designed to bring together towns and larger villages from across Gloucestershire and surrounding areas to share problems, learn about proven, practical, implementable ideas and solutions and consider new initiatives. The day will provide an opportunity for plenty of networking time both informally and during structured sessions. Speakers will include Chris Wade, Chief Executive, Action for Market Towns/Towns Alive and Alison Eardley, Policy Manager, who will look at the recommendations from recent High Street reviews, the policy opportunities open to towns and discuss best practice drawing on examples of successful opportunities from across the UK. Representatives from Bedminsters Town Team and Leamingtons Business Improvement District will give delegates the chance to hear direct about how these towns have already been successfully implementing a number of initiatives to revitalise and sustain their town centres for any delegates who want to discuss their own particular issues. This workshop is heavily subsidised by Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum and we are expecting it to become full very quickly so please book as soon as possible.
