Explain to me how a CHAPLAIN discusses suicide without doing it - TopicsExpress

Explain to me how a CHAPLAIN discusses suicide without doing it from a perspective of faith. And by the way, if a person is an atheist who believes that his existence is nothing more than a function of chance, that is time + energy = life, with no ultimate meaning or purpose and nothing beyond, how do you convince him not to take his own life if he decides to check out? What do you say? Things arent that bad? Because Im here to tell you that sometimes they ARE that bad; and if life has no meaning for you, one that originates in something greater than yourself, what reason do you have for sticking around when circumstances approach the unbearable. This man was trying to share Christ, the one thing he knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that will provide meaning and purpose and hope to the broken hearted, just like another Chaplin did for me at a difficult time in my life, 27 years ago, at the Main Post Chapel, of Fort Benning. And I am eternally grateful to him for it. What he shared revolutionized my life. Those of you out there who know me, from the old days, know thats true. There have been hardships in my life, to be sure, but I can now look at them from an eternal viewpoint, with purpose and a sense of mission and destination, rather than simply living for the here and now. I am also thank God that I live in a nation where I have the right to believe or not as I choose. I wouldnt have it any other way. If a soldier would prefer to opt out of a suicide prevention class presented by a Christian Chaplain then he should be able to do so. But for the love of God dont stop those who want to hear from listening. Its literally a matter of life and death and there are a lot of folks out there looking for answers. I assure you that the founding fathers never dreamed that the idea of separation of church and state would be carried to this extreme. If you want suicide prevention taught from a secular perspective, get a shrink; but good luck with that.
