Exploration of North Korean Art and Creative Outdoor Studio Co-organized by Korea Art Forum & Uri Tours Korea Art Forum (KAF), in collaboration with Uri Tours, is pleased to invite professional artists to a creative program in which artists will explore North Korean art along with urban landscapes and will be able to conceive and create artwork in the natural outdoors of the DPRK. This exclusive program is open to all professional artists, including painters, sculptors, architects, poets, creative writers, composers, critics, and other creative artists. We will visit Beijing’s Art Districts, Pyongyang, Wonsan, Kumgangsan, Kaesong (including newly designated UNESCO World Heritage sites), and Paekdusan. This program offers a rare and probably once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: o To explore art scenes in contemporary socialist countries by visiting the Mansudae Art Studio in the 798 Art District and the Peking Fine Arts Gallery in the Caochangdi Art Village in Beijing; o To see the Arch of Triumph, the Tower of Juche Idea, Kim Il Sung Square and other urban landscapes of Pyongyang; o To speak with artists and art students in Pyongyang and to witness the local art scene by visiting the Mansudae Art Studio, Paekdusan University of Architecture, Embroidery Studio, Paekho Art Studio and other art spaces; o To create art in the most beautiful outdoor spaces of the Korean peninsula, including the Daedong River, Songdowon Sea Bathing Resort, Kumgangsan and other scenic and historic places; and o To encounter the sublime “Heaven Lake” at the top of the Paekdu Moutains which culminates the exploration. An additional benefit of joining this delegation is that we will exhibit works created in North Korea and/or based on this exploration at the Gallery Ho in Chelsea, NY, in November of this year. We will choose one work per artist for the public exhibition. We will also offer poem readings, concerts and panels during the exhibition to present other creative activities (outside the visual art discipline) inspired by the exploration. Dates of The Exploration: We have alternative dates. We will choose the dates that accommodate more artists. The first choice: September 4 – 14, 2013 The second choice: October 4 – 14, 2013 The costs of the exploration (based on departure from Beijing): $3,650 per person in a shared room / $4,250 per person in a single room If you are interested in participating in this unique program to explore North Korean art scenes and various historic places, and to create (or conceive) art in North Korean urban and country landscapes, please contact Ms. Andrea Lee at andrea.lee@uritours or Mr. Heng-Gil Han at [email protected].
