Explorer Program Program Contact: Sgt. George Long 4209 N. College Ave. Indianapolis, IN. 46209 (317) 327- 3105 E-mail: [email protected] The IMPD Explorer Program is sponsored by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in collaboration with the Boy Scouts of America. The program gives youth an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement. It has been in existence since May 1970. The Explorers meet every Tuesday evening from 6 -9 pm at the IMPD Youth Services Branch Office located at 4209 N. College Ave. and at INDY PALs JTV Hill Center located at 1806 N. Columbia St. We occasionally meet at other training sites as needed. Community Service and working with IMPD The Explorers also work details with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, assisting with a variety of requests. In the past we have worked at the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Indians home games, assisting with pedestrian traffic control. We have also worked at the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard, & Formula One races, FOP picnics, Credit Union picnics, and Indiana State Fair to assist with parking. We also volunteer for many hours of community service projects throughout the year. Eligibility • Must be a resident U.S. Citizen of the United States. • Must be 14 - 19 years old and at least a graduate of the 8th grade. • Must maintain at least a C average in school. • Not have been convicted of a felony. • Maintain a good standing in the community. • Must have reliable transportation. • Must complete all other requirements as may be directed by the advisor of the Post. Training Training is provided by experienced law enforcement academy instructors and qualified guests. Equipment Most of the uniforms and equipment are provided.
