Exploring African Fashion Introduction Fabric is the fashion of life. It is through the manipulation of fabric that designers express their creativity, uniqueness and personality. More and more designers are becoming aware of the varying african textiles, its importance and contribution to the fashion world. African fabric, characterized by its vibrant colors and intricate patterns has now taken its well-deserved position in the fashion industry. It is surprising to know, however, that the origin of african fabric is not truly African. African fabric was created by Asians and Europeans and then sold to African traders. For example, the popular Dutch wax cloth was produced by Europeans imitating Asian designs but sold to Africans. What makes these fabrics African is that they are loved by Africans, the unique and tasteful work done to them by Africans, the African culture and traditions associated with such fabrics and the social status given to them by Africans.
