Extract from novel: As the rotating Earth slowly positioned each of its nations to embrace the rising sun, and as the populace gradually awoke, every person on the planet, entered into a day that would challenge all and change so much. Nobody had a choice in the matter, for this Day would be like no other day in history. It would precipitate a time of rapid change and there could be no going back. Over the preceding decades numerous groups had made demands on their respective authorities to hold such a Day as this, but in the main they’d been either ignored and labelled conspiracy theorists, or marginalized as pseudo scientists and fringe thinkers. Since the tail end of the twentieth century their mission had been one to warn the public of the eventuality of such a day. The Vatican too, in an attempt to lessen the inevitable impact, had periodically released partial information concerning alien life elsewhere, and the likelihood of a coming full disclosure, into the public domain. Although NASA, over the years, had commissioned various studies into the potential influence on public attitudes and values, none could predict with any certainty, the full social impact or its repercussions. Nor could they predict the affect the religious connotations might have, or even whether a conflict might arise that could begin to unravel the very fabric of society. But in the end, it was the pressure applied by external powers, that eventually left governments with no choice, and the Day of Full Disclosure came to be.
