Eyes Wide Shut could have been shortened. It should have been more like Full Metal Jacket - right around 2 hours. Theres no excuse for it hitting the 160 minute mark. I love it and find it endlessly wonderful and complex and I do firmly believe cinema died with Stanley. But it should have been snappier and funnier. And it frankly couldve been, from a strictly editorial standpoint. The irony is that I only completely understand what EWS is about right now. 1999. I was 27 years old. I loved it on principle, but really didnt get it. Now I get it.
