#FACE ABOVE WATER 5 (True life story) It was 3:30 am,and here we are outside on the road way,why waking us this time? Why the flogging and abusive words? Many things ran through my mind,we stood outside for almost 2 hours, then one of our physical training instructors told us we are going for morning sports and every day we must wake up 3:30am to muster outside, they taught us how to jog the military way that morning, how to synchronise our movements for the beauty of the jogging to show, the we were moved and the jogging started,it was a far distance I cant even calculate, the roads were all tiled and I got the chance to see inside of NNBTS,the barracks and every things inside that compound,we jogged round and came back to the road way,we did some exercise and from there without bathing or brushing, they ordered us to go dinning hall and take breakfast, some were forming and refused to eat saying they havent brush or take their bath and they just came back from a jogging exercise but as pako as I am,I rushed my custard and beans... For 5 days I couldnt reach home, they collected all our phones but the smart ones smuggled theirs inside,I am already broke, while I was struggling to buy some materials I needed due to the fact that I didnt come with enough money, some of my hausa mates came fully loaded with a lot of cash to spend,if you have money to spend in NNBTS on food and other things, you wont feel the suffering too much because you know that at every drill, punishment or exercise you have milk and chocolate to gulp down your throat... So I met one of my state guy in my division and took him as my elder brother cos my age is twice his,he is very old,I should be among the 10 youngest in about 1200 of us that finished the training... So I met him and complained that I havent spoken to my family and especially my then lover shola..I know she will be worried about me,she wasnt happy the day I told her I was going to training school,I saw it in her face that day... So he brought out a small torchlight Nokia phone he smuggled in himself, and asked me to flash my people, then I got to talk to everyone that day including my dearest shola... Everyday I think about this girl and to be sincere, the thoughts of her kept me going,no matter how hard it is,I will always smile that I have a beautiful girlfriend at home to go meet after my training programme... We do sports every morning 3;30am and afternoon @4pm everyday excluding Sundays... There was a week after resumption I didnt get to bath for 3 days,we were so occupied I didnt even see my bunk... So a day came, they(instructors) took us round the school environment and showed us some placed out of bound to us,places like shops where they sell food and all other things, the school gate and so many other places...even when we see pounded yam beside the road,we cant stop and buy,if you are caught then its a sorry story... A week already gone,it was everyday drill, jogging, punishment and sports and we were taught so many military stuffs while still on the road way...it was after 2 months we started class...we did another general exams and some didnt make it and were dropped.. So I fell sick after some weeks,i was stricken down with Malaria,I was so sick I couldnt eat for days, and it was the same time we started medicals,so I reported sick and was treated, some were dropped on medical grounds, some girls even brought pregnancy to training school... 2 weeks after resumption then I had a fracture on my left leg while jogging one morning on the 27th of september, prior to that morning,Ive been feeling pains on the leg but it didnt stop me from doing any exercise, the pain started when my Divisional officer and his friend asked us to frog jump on a spot,we did up to a thousand jumps that day and since then, the pain started until 27th of sept...we were coming back from the barracks during morning sport when I heard a squeak sound on my left leg,the I fell on my ass and started crying, everyone passed me and were wondering what could have gone wrong with me,then the instructors came and started flogging me while I was sitting, shouting at me and giving me orders to stand up and continue jogging but I couldnt, then a mate passed and backed me back to the division, for 1 week I couldnt do anything by myself, but I was forced to train anyway but I do that everyday in tears...for One good month I suffered,I was moving like a crippled,we were many though, and we were called otondos...a whole gallant Kola became an otondo... #To be continued...
