FACE OF A TRUE LEADER By Patrick Obinalihe The past leaders of Abia State must have been with the notion that we do not have any dreams to be fulfilled, they wallowed in blind patriotism and lost track of the rudimentary path which was essential for them to embark on and take us to our destiny. Self-gain syndrome ate deep into their system, selfish interest brought down their values , and the important of democratic leadership was not actualized,which made them to fail in their very times. In the true sense of perception, leadership in Abia state has recreated a lot of challenges, as a result, Abia needed a leader who would comprehend what democracy means, and what leadership is all about, and how democracy can be fetched to improve development in the wider scope. Leadership starts with nerve -driving zeal that overwhelms a true leader , and will possess a real leader with a high grade sense of belonging, and this phenomenal trait has been missing in the leaders we have had in the past. A good leader will always strive to bring much needed advantage and lot of change or transformation, either to sustain, transform, retain growth and uphold the validity of progress in Abia state over a period of time,and such is what was lacking in the past. The slow process that Abia had in the past ensued from improper handling of state affairs which could be traced by the time when past governors were swaying with their self-covetousness; they did not strive for a balance, success and continuity, they failed to attract a justifiable act of genuine democratic polity and systematic approach that should form basis of a democratization that will better the lives of citizens. It is true that is widely believed that Abia state can be said to have had a history of a nosedive in democratic perfection coming way back as from the time of creation of Abia state. But the truth remain that the past governors lack transparently most reliable visions and ideas to project the interest of the state, and have fallen below all expectation of true democracy. Unlike the present government, some if not all those who were before now were focused on self-gain interest by garnering constricted and artful leadership approach which made no difference in the end. But the present government has orchestrated administration without dishonesty, which is a necessity to achieving a critical objective;a government that has manifested a firm reliance with oneness manner that has created the love amongst the people of Abia state. If the past government and leaders of Abia State have portrayed half of what is now exhibited by the present government of Abia State ,we could have had way better an enabling environment than it was to be. The people of Abia State were dreaming of a character with an in-depth drive consummated with a zealous intent for serving his people diligently. That is one factor missing in the line of rhythm shimmered by the previous governments which consequentially brought about the collapse of their past administration under the influence of repression , dictatorship and autocratic system of government which could be best described as the most non-democratically and non-profitable governance. A thorough analysis from the time of creation of Abia to 2007 reveals a statistics of bareness and dullardity of no transformation. That was common because the past governments were unable to diffuse the polity in meaningful manner. But after transition from office by weight of constitutional act, came a man we should support his effort, which is spontaneously bringing the desired socio- economic development we needed in Abia State. And it is no other than the present governor of Abia State ,Chief T.A Orji- who has made a huge difference, and with total reckoning, we will encourage him to observe continuity and be more clinical in disposing democracy in its highest echelon in order to bring the desired development needed in Abia State.
