FACILITIES @ COVPRESS 2500 Tonne Cattaneo Transfer Press The investment will complement the current 800t and 1500t transfer presses, and extend the existing portfolio of transfer progression and tandem press capacity offered by the company. Bed Size: 6m x 2.5m Blank Loading Size: 2m x 1.8m This will: Allow Covpress to process the latest high strength materials through multi operations. This requirement will increase as the automotive industry moves towards even higher strength steels in order to minimise weight. Enable the company to expand the scope of production by stamping complex and highly technical parts, achieving the highest levels of quality and consistency. Minimise labour costs through the use of state-of-the-art equipment thus allowing the company to offer competitive prices to the marketplace and reduce the risk from low cost countries. Provide efficient and effective manufacturing solutions through greater flexibility so as to continue to deliver world-class levels of quality and service. Allow the company to change the mindset of its customers by offering the capability to run large tandem parts via transfer thus maximising labour cost savings. Transfer Presses To remain competitive in todays market, it was essential for Covpress to invest in new press technology. The purchase of our two transfer presses gives us the necessary edge that allows us to compete. The 1500 tonne press has a 5.5 x 2.5 metre bed and the 800 tonne a 4.0 x 2.0 metre bed. Both presses have automatic scrap chutes through the bed as well as front and back. The best option for both new and resourced dies. Progression Presses From 125 tonnes to 630 tonnes, our range of presses can handle most packages of business. From the smallest bracket on a 300 tonne press with a 75mm stroke, to roof members pressed from 1.6 metre coil on our 630 tonne press with a 3.6 x 1.8 metre bed, Covpress is both efficient and competitive. Tandem Lines Download press specifications and capacity details. Tandem Lines The reorganisation of our mechanical press lines has resulted in the removal of small bed presses and the installation of large bed, high tonnage, single and double action presses. This improved facility allows us to offer our customers a range of twenty seven presses, which can be run stand alone or in line. These presses comprise: 400 - 1000 tonne 3.6 x 2.1m (144 x 85”) Maximum bed size 2.1m (86”) Maximum shut height Assembly Cells - Robotic Body in White assembly is our core business. Covpress run and maintain many robotic assembly cells and automated assembly lines. Our Engineering and Maintenance teams are hand picked for their knowledge and skill and the structure is supported and nourished via our ongoing apprentice schemes. Assembly Cells - Manual Whilst being beneficial to automate assembly cells whenever possible, there are occasions when market forces dictate the employment of manual lines. Our operatives and experienced welders are highly trained and motivated and their skill ensures that Covpress deliver goods that are equal to some of the most stringent tests in the industry today. Powder Coat The new facility is not only designed to accommodate the existing range of Covpress components but also to provide the additional capacity to take on outside work from general industrial customers as well as the automotive sector. The new line can process large dimensional parts of up to 1650mm high by 900mm wide at a production speed of 2000mm per minute. The finished product comes with the highest levels of corrosion resistance on the market today. Formbending Occasions arise when our customers ask for something a little different. A press tool is therefore not always equal to the task. We have developed bespoke machines to produce finished components. In this case, an extruded channel is formed and cut in two stages to meet the required geometry and fixing points for the vehicle. Component Assembly Covpress assembles components using many different automated processes including glueing, clinching and the application of mastic and foam. Typical applications involve the joining and sealing of components with minimal distortion in cases where stringent sealing and leak testing, such as helium leak testing, are required. CAD Programs In the automotive market of today, vehicles change constantly. The CAD software utilised to design these vehicles is also ever changing. For many years Covpress has changed CAD software in line with our customers needs, invariably updating the stations upon which to run the different packages. To stay in touch with the requirements of many customers, we must receive vehicle models in a plethora of different programs. So at the beginning of 2005 Covpress installed Spinfire from Actify. This software translates and enables us to view all of the major CAD data packages in current use. We have also introduced Fusion-DX from Datranet to manage all incoming and outgoing files to our customers via ISDN. It is ever more important that Covpress is able to support customers with panel and subsequent tooling feasibility and capability to reduce scrap by supplying efficient and accurate panel material requirements. To facilitate this Covpress employs Finite Element Analysis software from FTI, that comprises FAST BLANK, BLANK NEST, PROG NEST and FORMING SUITE FULL INCREMENTAL SIMULATION SOFTWARE driven by dedicated Engineers. CMM To ensure we meet and maintain the required dimensional standards Covpress has invested heavily in CMM equipment and technology and maintains sufficient capacity to support both ongoing production and new product introductions. Our Johansson Saphir uses the latest Metrologic software giving full CAD compatibility with all models in IGES format for CAD to part comparison and automatic CNC measurement. With a measurement envelope of 3m x 2.5m x 1m and the latest PH10 Head technology we are equipped to dimensionally assess high tolerance components ranging from large Body in White panels and structures down to the smallest brackets and components within our desired product range. covpress/facilities/tour.php
