FACING THE FEARS OF YOUR FUTURE LIFTING THE HOPES OF GRADS June is the month we salute GRADUATES. For those young people who are leaving the familiar to take on the unfamiliar, this we know: CHANGE AND CHALLENGES ARE SCARY. If you have or know a graduate who could use a boost of encouragement, you may wish to SHARE this amazing Godwink Story. Louise DuArt was living in California struggling with the uncertainties of her future. But, she loved entertaining her neighborhood coffee klatch with WACKY VOICES … everyone from Bart Simpson to Joan Rivers. When her finances crashed and the bank was threatening to take the house, her neighborhood friends came by to offer support. One neighbor suggested, wide-eyed, “With all your funny voices, Louise, why don’t you go down to a comedy club and perform?” Louise stared at her, and said, “Has the cheese just slipped off your cracker?” [OPTION to watch this story: hulu/watch/141342#i0,p4,d3] Another woman good-naturedly bet fifty bucks that Louise didn’t have the courage to do it. She didn’t. But, she needed the money. A few nights later Louise stood in the wings of the dark and smoky comedy club, SCARED TO DEATH. She uttered a prayer. Her name was called, she stepped out, and SHOOK ALL THE WAY TO THE STAGE. But here’s something she learned: when you STEP OUT IN FAITH, that’s when God can do his best work. And YOU can receive His godwinks. Unbeknownst to Louise, that night in the audience were SCOUTS from the TV show Star Search, similar to American Idol, who were there to see the act that followed. But they liked HER. And within weeks she catapulted from housewife, with no money for the mortgage, to national TV! Isn’t that incredible? But wait. Stepping out in faith produced another godwink. Someone who “just happened” to be watching Star Search that night, was singer DONNA SUMMER. Overnight, Louise became the opening act for the Diva of Disco, launching a career as one of the world’s top comedic/impressionists. ••• That’s what can happen when YOU go through CHALLENGE AND CHANGE in your life. God winks at you! The primary LESSON here: Louise may have still been entertaining the ladies of the neighborhood had it not been for MUSTERING THE COURAGE to do something she never thought she could.
