(FACT OF THE DAY) Explosives start off in liquid and solid states. When they explode they turn into gasses releasing heat and a lot of force. Explosives are used for war and also to make tunnels, clear land, and sends life lines for ship wreck victims. Almost all explosives contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. The gases formed when an explosive goes off are carbon dioxide, steam, nitrogen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. High explosives change from solids to liquids to gasses in a amazingly short time as quick as four miles a second. TNT, RDX, PETN and Pentolite are all dangerous high explosives that can be used in war and for conventional means these explosives are very sensitive to heat. Low explosives move a lot slower then high explosive and are not as dangerous. Low explosives are usually found in gun powder. Explosives are a huge problem in Iraq since the chemicals to make a explosive are not hard to obtain homemade explosives are killing American soldiers. Explosives are rarely used a lone they are usually used as detonators for things like rockets and missiles. Low explosives usually act as a detonator for high explosives since high explosives are so sensitive to the heat a high explosive could just go off on a hot humid day.
