FAITH AND FACT I love the prayers of Hezekiah in Isaiah 37:16-19, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of mens hands-wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.” Sennacherib had led a campaign of intimidation against Hezekiah and on receiving a letter from him, he had to go to God in prayers. What I love in his prayers is the fact that he was REALISTIC. He faced the FACTS. He prayed from the natural to the supernatural from the real to the SUPER-REAL. He said TRULY, LORD, THE KINGS OF ASSYRIA HAVE LAID WASTE ALL THE NATIONS. Truly they are humanly powerful and have done things that can intimidate. BUT...the gods they defeated are “not gods, but the work of mens hands-wood and stone.” So, the REAL GOD, ARISE! HE went from FACT to FAITH. This was the similar picture painted about Abraham in Romans 4:19-20, “Without weakening in faith, he FACED THE FACT THAT HIS BODY IS AS GOOD AS DEAD – since he was about a hundred years old – and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. YET, he did not waver with unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.” (NIV). Faith does not mean lying about your situation. Faith is an acknowledgement of the reality and facts of your situation BUT a superior knowledge and acknowledgement of the REALITY and FACT of the availability of God’s power for you and in you. Examples: “I have headache but by the stripes of Jesus I am healed.” Not “I don’t believe I have headache” when my head is actually on fire! “Lord I am broke but thank you because you will supply all my needs according to your riches in glory” – Not “Lord I am rich” when my pocket is actually empty and I want God to bless me with money. There is a world of difference between POSITIVE CONFESSION and LIE. Let me have your contributions to this. I know this should form some interesting discussion.
