FAITH – Lost or found…? I was asked recently “why I had lost my faith? One could, of course, have a field day with such an insensate enquiry and yes, I was tempted to provide an equally insensate answer, but the futility of such a response was made all the more conspicuous when conceding the magnitude of conditioning that my interrogator has been subject to over decades. Why would this “minister” (and I use the term “minister” loosely), assume erroneously, that “I have lost my faith?” It is written, you shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve”. Luke 4:8 So, I guess if no longer engaging in man-worship equates to “losing my faith” then so be it! Personally, I prefer worshipping God through his Son Jesus and Him only! You see, I refuse to worship man and I find all forms of man-worship repugnant. I find it equally repugnant that religious “leaders” (another term I use loosely), are unable or perhaps unwilling to draw a correlation between the deleterious occurrence of man-worship with a church in decline. Whilst I completely accept the concept of messengers as the Christian Bible subscribes, the difference between accepting and worshipping is irrevocable and crystal clear. I no longer subscribe to the rhetoric fuelled sermons that are without substance, irrelevant, judgmental and condescending. I no longer want to be subject to the vagaries of religious zealots, megalomaniacs, philanderers and theologically challenged “ministers” who claim to be God’s representatives on Earth, yet their true character is revealed in their amoral and abhorrent comportment, devoid of veracity. I no longer conform to their exclusive fundamentalism, choosing rather to worship God, who, in my humble view, has no religion or perhaps better phrased IS GOD OF ALL universally! Empirical evidence in business reveals “People do not leave companies, they leave managers” This is equally true of churches today, people do not leave churches, people leave “ministers”, “ministers” who are unable to rise above the rhetoric through years of conditioning, “ministers” that are concerned with living the high life with the voluntary donations of members, losing millions to bad investments without accountability. Such “ministers” are haemorrhaging members, making their religious entities weak and yet they perpetuate the weakening by failing their constituents with impunity. They proclaim a distinctive code of conduct, and discipline their members for failure to live up to it, yet the “leaders” have another set of rules that apply to them and their cronies. They are no longer able to inspire their constituents’ time or effort or foster a level of commitment that binds members by love and a deep desire to serve. In short, they have failed their constituents and continue to do so in perpetuity. Then they wonder why these constituents “have lost their faith”. The deterioration of the church into obscurity will persist until they are able to ingeniously deviate from their pernicious theocracy and man-worship and transform into a divinely inspired entity that can satiate the spiritual needs of its constituents. They need to provide clear-cut, compelling answers to questions concerning the meaning of life, gnostic gospels, inclusiveness and catechism, they need to mobilise their constituents’ energies for shared purposes and become patrons of accountability. They need to support their ministers at the congregational level instead of denigrating them with meaningless “words” of support that have no foundation, signs so typical of a theocracy! It is these faithful servants that are on the frontline, defending the faith in the face of scandal after scandal involving their “leaders”. I wonder if it has even crossed their mind that many have left “their franchise” in search of a richer spiritual diet where rhetoric is replaced with meaningful inspiration and where the word is relevant and current. Where love for God and our fellow man is preached and practiced, void of theocratic inferences. They haven’t “lost their faith”. It seems to me they have found it. Perhaps, they have given up franchised religion and found God in the process. Have an awesome April friends. Andre
